ABOUT KINTSUGI

-  scars into beauty -

The inspiration for these shoes came from the traditional Japanese technique of kintsugi, or "gold-jointing. Like the technique of joining cracks and chips with gold and reproducing them as beauty, leather flaws” and “bloodstains” that would normally be discarded are colored gold and sublimated as part of the design.

The gold-colored material is a film-like foil material used for the surface of foil-processed leather.
The gold coloring is carefully applied by hand using a special adhesive solution.

By applying heat and crimping on top of it, delicate gold lines emerge on the surface of the leather, realizing a texture and beauty that looks like a kintsugi (gold-plated joint).

The location and shape of the lines are all different according to the individual characteristics of each piece of leather. A one-of-a-kind pair. A new form of luxury that only Kavkimono can offer.
